How old is he?

Getting close to two years this April.

Two rather cold hours today. Close to freezing this afternoon and freezing overnight, - 4c they forcast.
No rain this afternoon so we were all out for a couple of hours. 4pm roost time has moved to 4.30 rather quickly considering it's only 17 days from the longest night.

It looks like Tull has laid her first egg. It's the darker egg at the back. Both nest boxes had been tried out.

I took these with the phone.

What are the pros and cons of shredded paper bedding?

I know you weren’t asking me, but will give you my perspective anyway.
- free, clean, rots down fast in compost (or in my case in the coop), good insulating properties.
- can tend to stick to the bloom if the egg (though easy to pull off), need a shredder unless you have a supply of ready shredded
Chickens seem happy with it. I use other bedding as well. At least in the US inks are now soy based so I am not worried about toxicity.

I do deep litter and the paper strips would pack down, think paper mache. I have used in the nest boxes. When I cleaned the nest boxes I would sprinkle used in the coop. Was good that way.

Ours buggered off for a few weeks but they are back now and the turkeys are not impressed. We will have twice as many as spring-time mating hits.
