Some people have absolutely no understanding of what the tribes meant to me. The person who sent me the email didn't even bother to look up the names of the last two survivors ( I left a copy of all the names and ages with pictures as well as details about who was related to who, plus feeding information)
Whether the email was meant to be malicious I can't say. What it is is highly insensitive even if they believe they were doing the right thing which I doubt.

When I got into the truck to to leave the smallholding I couldn't even look back and cried for the entire journey to the airport. I spent more time with those chickens than I have with any person in my entire life.

What irritates me most is I haven't heard a single word from this person since I left Catalonia until I reluctantly contact a relative there because the rest of the family were intent on not letting this relative know about the situation regarding the sale of the family home here in the UK. Fool me perhaps didn't think this was right and rang this relative who I wouldn't normally have anything more to do with. This is now the second email I've had from this creep who seems to think that I have "got over" the events that led to me leaving Catalonia.
I will never "get over" having to leave the best friends I've ever had or ever will have.
The most perverse thing is this person is of the type who considers themselves emotionally sensitive but who in fact has never thought of anyone bar themselves and has the sensitiviy of a brick.

I, a complete stranger, cried when I read that you had to leave Catalonia. I don't know you or the tribes, but I do know chickens as friends, and how hard it is to find others who see chickens this way, which meant you were leaving your friends to uncertain care. It was tragic that you had to leave them.

The few updates you've shared have been very upsetting. I'm sorry for you and them.

Yesterday was the last good weather day for the rest of the week, where "good" means 40F/4C, no sun, but no wind or snow either. I made extra time to sit with the birds in the evening. Good time for tax photos.

Just as my legs were starting to feel like ice sticks, warm blanket Bebe jumped up to nap on my lap. She stayed 30 minutes, with a short break to fly off and see what the other hens were scratching up. She's a big, tall muppet of a Langshan. I love her dearly.

Younger hens (like Miss Nugs, in the background) orbited to see when they might have a turn on Beakwipe's Footwarming Service. Lil Nugs has been extra cuddly since I started warming her feet with my hands on frigid days this winter.

We were eventually joined by Bebe's peers, Stilton and The Unquestioned and Most Esteemed Highest Head Hen Brahma Donna. It got a little crowded, but nice and warm.

Lastly, in solidarity with Fret: the Easter Eggers are all about hiding their heads in each other's fluff. It's a bed-time thing, though. They don't do this out in the open like Fret.

While not relevant to this thread there are some people here I know who enjoyed the pictures and stories from the tribes in Catalonia. I had an email from one of the smallholding owners yeaterday informing me that all the chickens at the small holding are now dead. The last hen got killed by a predator and her rooster which from the information I have was most likely Treacle had to be put down because he stopped eating and drinking after the last hens death.
I doubt I'll ever know any more. The person who sent me the email is the most contemptible person I have had the misfortune of knowing and nothing they write can be fully believed so any further information is unlikely.

How some 25 healthiest, breeding chickens can have been wiped out in around four years doesn't bear thinking about.

That is tragic! I am so sorry! I know that has to hit you really hard, made worse by not having a trustworthy source.

I have always found animals to be better company than people. Most people are just horrible.
