Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Two hours today. I guess that's summer over.:D Back to cool, grey with drizzle/light rain.
Not sure what's gone wrong with the pictures. I've been using the phone to take some of the pictures.
Sylph is less broody now there are no eggs to sit on. Fret I'm not so sure about.
Got a bit done in the run and on the fence but I don't work in the rain anymore. I've had years of it.
Had a long discussion with the group treasurer about who pays for what. The fencing is according to the lease the groups responsibility so I'll get most of it paid for out of the rather meagre funds. I can't say I feel in any way guilty about making them cough up, they avoided any financial out goings for the livestock and any responsibility so far.
I haven't been to bed yet. I had a few letters to write. Yes, I still write letters.

As a curious aside...

I found Martha under the roost when I went to the coop after dark to move some of the flock to their new coop. I removed her, then took away Silas and the Dominiques, and Esther, using a pet carrier.

Zacchaeus watched me from the roost.

After I placed the moved chickens on the roost in their new coop Zacchaeus started crowing, repeatedly, which he never does at night.

His world has changed, I believe he was responding.

Both he and Silas were crowing this morning, as usual.

I LOVE this!
Do you mean my response to your loss?or
Do you mean my hens coming inside?
Bc I don’t love it when they do. If I wasn’t around to hush them to the other side of the door (and close it), I bet I would need toilet paper to clean the floor. And with a little bad luck, I needed to wash the entrance carpet too.

Chicken poop with a piece of eggshell on the terrace:

More lovely pictures of our garden. Cherry trees and purple magnolia tree blossoming. The purple magnolia is great for a small garden. Its about 25 yo and still no more than approx 2m high.
