Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Here in NJ, the gov't is stealing a family's 175 acre farm, claiming eminent domain. So they can build a bunch of apartment buildings on it. Rather disgusting.šŸ¤‘
Look up Groton, CT. They took people's land and houses to build a casino. :he

the theory is fine if one has fixed coops, but not mobile ones, and if the chickens are used to be rounded up (which mine are not).
Not to you or anyone to follow up. Just a bit of my chicken history. 11 years ago, when I started to keep bantam chickens.

We had a light coop with a small run for max 4 small bantams we moved around. Bc the run was too small I made a run with mash panels, wire and tie wraps and attached it to the small roof covered run. The panel-run was made to move around separately and connect after the move.

The run space was still rather small and the lawn started to look weird with 4 fanatic bantam scratchers. Next spring we decided to make a permanent setup with a safer and larger run.

My first flock, when Ini mini was a pullet. :

PS: I use both I and we, bc my husbands always helps with the heavy work and the larger projects. But it’s me who is in ā€˜chickens-charge’ most of the time.

Free ranging all day was never an option bc of the predator load here and my own well being. My husband and I decided to let them free range only when at least one of us is at home. Im pretty sure we would have had many more casualties if we had them free range every day from dawn till dusk.
