Normally Ex Battery hens are very low risk, but only if one gets them straight from the battery. Once they been held at a distribution center the risk becomes high.A high risk in bringing new diseases into your flock with ex-bat is new to me.
The better rescue organizations collect the hens from the battery and take them directly to a pick up point. These hens are usually fine.because they haven't mixed with any other hens and haven't been on the ground in the holding centers.
Usually there are some hens collected that are not picked up by people who have ordered them, or are considered in too bad a shape to be passed to their new keepers.
they sat, and hatched, and are raising the 3 chicks together.
