Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Someone on here said when they played my video with a mink screaming their chickens were terrified. They don't have mink there.
OK. That I would be afraid of!
I did try to see if this guy could come deal with my rat infestation but he is in Utah so not practical. I love how he gives the mink a bucket of water to cool off in!

Maybe the alert for predators is instinctive, comparable with people screaming of fear (for a spider 🕷️ or a mouse🐁 ).
I remember once I had Skeksis & Chippy out for some supervised activity and a hawk screeched nearby. Chippy immediately ran behind our water tank to hide.

I've watched a few of his videos, love how he uses a mink and dog tag team.

My uncle used to keep mink for their coats.:idunno They lived in banks of cages. They used to chew through one sixteenth guage wire ti try to get at the mink in the next cage. My uncles son lost the tip of his second finger due to a mink bite. We had the American black mink in Catalonia. They were shoot on sight being an invasive species. Luckily Mink like to be close to water and we were a bit short on that where we were. The Forestalls (Park Wardens) came with traps when the Mink migrated to a new area. None got any of the tribes though. Clever creatures but not a creature one wants around chickens.

It rained. Then it hammered down. It rained some more. It went on most of the day. Apparently we are on the path of the latest Atlantic storm.
My phone's MET app has yellow warning notices plastered on the main page, the news has it featured. It's a bit of weather ffs, we've been getting it since evolution day one! It's not like it's as devastating as the storms other countries get.

Best not rant on about that I suppose and get on with the chickens.
Yeah well, Sylph and Mow were in the coop when I arrived and it was quite clear they were not coming out. They wouldn't even get off their perches when I pushed the feed tray in. Glais was in the extended run sotr of pacing around, but even he wasn't up for venturing out into the open. I can't blame them really it was pretty horrid for a while.
My jacket has started to leak at the shoulders. It's a great jacket in most other features, comfort, thorn proof, sensible pockets etc, but the main thing I bought it for, keeping the wet out, has failed inside a year of everyday use.
I can probably reproof the fabric but what the coat need is the shoulder covers one sees on drovers and stockmans coats.

Try again tomorrow.

Maybe not, but just the other side of the Severn River from you Monmouth has been flooded badly
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has declared a major incident in Monmouth following "widespread flooding" due to Storm Claudia.

Natural Resources Wales has imposed four severe flood warnings, external in the area amid concern of a "significant risk to life" with more than 40 flood alerts and warnings across Wales.

"Teams have been carrying out rescues, evacuations, welfare checks, and moving residents from affected areas to places of safety" in Monmouth, said a fire service statement.

Gwent Police, Welsh Ambulance Service and Monmouthshire council staff are also involved in the operation.
Fire service area manager Matt Jones described the flooding as "significant" and urged people to "avoid the area completely".

This is the bottom of the high street (closest to the river)
