I think I've got 7 if that blur on the right behind the sapling is a chicken.

All my bantams prefer to stand on my hands & be carried that way. My standards prefer the firm hold around the wings & across the breast.

I rather suspect that Shad is cradling their belly in his palm and their legs are hanging down either side, but no doubt he'll clarify when he's back on.

At night I do the trick Shad taught us of pressing in the back of their legs so they step back on my arm. Only Dotty doesn’t do that.
Then as I get close to the exam area I put my other hand gently on their wings so I have a bit more control.
In the day for some of them I can pick them up from underneath so their breast bone is in my palm. That only works some of the time.

I move my hands towards them at below head height and slide my hand underneath them with one leg caught between my first and midddle finger and lift.
Sometimes I just slide my hand underneath from behind and make them step back onto it and lift.
What I've found is they don't like being grabbed from above and don't like having their wings restricted.

Thanks everyone. My aunt usually does the picking up/holding when we need to examine or treat anyone. I would love to see a pic of one of you holding a LF chicken in that manner (sometimes what I read and what I picture don’t jive). Although I end up with chickens on me often, it is usually through their free will of jumping on my lap or arm. Lol.

Also, now that I will have my own flock in the yard, would you all suggest a nightly or weekly exam at roost? If I can get the last soffit predator proofed today or tomorrow, the girls will move in right after.

In my opinion a hole which will not have your bottom in contact with dirty surfaces but only your shoes is far more hygienic than a modern toilet that isn't very clean. And I won't tell you what I think of whoever invented scrubbing your behind with paper and throwing the thing away in drinkable water.

In theory yes. Only the flush in French toilets flow are sometimes more like fountains (️).

And using paper in a cold climate without the luxury of having a warm bathroom is not that strange. Nowadays more people start to use a toilet fountain or bidet up north too.

Another warm day. Nobody wanted to look at the camera today.
I'm slightly concerned about the forcasted 36C temperatures early next week. The shade in the run isn't very good. The allotments, being where they are get an almost constant wind up the Avon Gorge and the coastal position of Bristol usually means it will be quite a few degrees cooler than the regional high.

Just getting too many eggs. C isn't selling any at the moment and I can't shift then all. Scrambled egg for the chickens tomorrow I guess.

We expect high temps too. Even 38C next Tuesday. Only one day though.
Must be hard to travel with such a temperature. Or do you have airco on the bus when its hot?

And can’t you give /sell some eggs to you’re DD? Or neighbours? Such a waste to give them to the chickens.
