Wow! That's a lot more than I'm used to. Sandy was euthanised for $25 (aporox £12.50).the vet wanted £75 to euthanise a hen.
that's extortion. I don't know what's going on with vets these days; my once-independent vet did a deal with a corp to outsource his admin (which was driving him nuts), and then seemed to be treated as an employee with instructions to do this, that and the other, and, probably not coincidentally, the bills more or less doubled in 2 years. Worse, the dog was given (unnecessary, I believe) 'boosters' for things that used to be given as a once-only vaccination when a puppy and jabs for health threats I'd never heard of. I lost trust in them some years ago because of this, and stopped going for annual check-ups and excess jabs. Fortunately the dog has been healthy since; I will take him if he has a problem but not otherwise.the vet wanted £75 to euthanise a hen
that they're at either end of the roost? that they're mingling with alternatively-feathered friends? that they're there at all? I give up; what do you want us to note about them?Note the two Legbars.
Lovely boots!I love these little guys so much.
My new pens aren't really coops at all. I like to keep the tribes separated into small groups. Most tribes have about six birds with the biggest group having 9. I'll not build another closed in coop especially after this blistering hot summer. My runs wouldn't be secure enough for most locations but here the threat of predators is low. This coop business. It's complicated.
Coops are usually built to provide protection from the elements and security for the chickens.
The easy botom line, as they say, is if you need a coop for chickens to live in one probably shouldn't be keeping chickens.
Obviously this isn't going to go down well with an awful lot of chicken keepers but there is a lot of truth in this view.
The best options I've seen have been large secure runs with no coops as such.
