Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

In the 70s I heard the best thing a person can do to help the planet was to not have children. More people need more food and resources.
If everyone in the world was to live like middle-class Americans we would need the resources of 7 earths.
Yeah, if we knew then what we know now.... wisdom of youth. 🤷‍♀️
Did anyone else hear Elon Musk?
"Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis. A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far."
I'll be sure to not buy a Tesla or stock.

I haven't posted a pic in a while so I must be due. I know @Shadrach likes roosters so here's a pic of a couple of ours. Red is my favorite, an EE rooster, Cholo, a lavender Orpington, is my wife's favorite rooster. Kinda ironic that they are sworn enemies. 🤣

wimp! Were you thinking of the silver sixpence, or the fact that if it was a proper one it had been sitting in a dark cupboard for a year or more? :gig
Steamed suet 🤢.
I owe tax; will chicken of the woods do?

In case not, here's Eve and her now 12-week old chicks, still together!

Incredible that she has remained with them all this time 💚. The three are striking, but so different ! I think being raised in a very diverse hatch gives them more tolerance ? Or maybe it's the other way round and mine that grew all looking alike don't accept differences. Will you be able to keep them together ? I'd feel bad separating them...
Along with the butchers, fruit and veg shops the ironmonger has been driven off the highstreet. What we have around here is the DIY superstoresexcept the are not really around here, they're built in out of town retail parks. I don't like them. Everything comes in little plastic packets. 10 washers £2.00. I need 50. It worked out a lot cheaper buying through the net. I found better quality screws on the net as well.
Well, I get that. Same situation here, but we still go to these superstores, because sometimes you want to see what you're buying. ...and I guess it's the same in most "developed" countries ?
It was one of the things I loved when I visited Istanbul and just post CCCR Saint Petersburg : huge cities that still had those small specialized shops, but it has probably changed by now.

For me, the key issue is scale. Mass production / monoculture causes problems, whatever it is being produced. And we can't eat trees.
I agree with you. Although I believe we should eat less meat, raising a war between organic cattle raisers and vegans, as sometimes seems to be the case in the US, is just a way of again not addressing the real problems of delocalized mass production in monocultural systems.
Not having all eggs in the same basket is the one thing that would seem common sense now!
Sadly many folks should not have children ..
I make great Custards. Pudding is a different dish from here I guess.
I did get the recipe for Lamingtons Thank you..
Not allot other to offer so will say Hi x Batts ..

It's not because of scary demography that I didn't have children but it gives me another reason to think it was a great choice for me😁. I would definitely have been a lousy parent! I also believe we're too many to live like we do.
I hope you and yours get well soon!

Some scientist did know and gave warning but they were not heeded and they were a minority.
But, ten years ago, how could we fail to see the emergency?
I have a few years to go
Me too but I already feel like an old bat 🤣. Age is in your mind !

as it turns out, that will be the last photo of them together; this morning Eve has decided they're all grown up, and has returned to the flock. They were hanging around the back door looking desolate :hugs I wonder if any of the roos will step up for them...
