Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

real problems of delocalized mass production in monocultural systems.
Not having all eggs in the same basket is the one thing that would seem common sense now!
absolutely. Olive trees from horizon to horizon is no 'greener' than cattle standing ankle deep in their own waste packed like sardines over vast blocks of land.

Some scientist did know and gave warning but they were not heeded and they were a minority.
But, ten years ago, how could we fail to see the emergency?
I 100% agree. They were sounding the alarm about the climate back in the 70s and we had the technology for EVs back then too. Big $ and politics absolutely squashed it.
I'm just saying as a young person I was busy being young and did not really look past my own nose much. Youth, wasted on the youth. I am saying that as the tree hugger I have always been- but I did not see this. I, thought the human race was better, smarter.... myself included, that we would come together, not apart.
Most of my girlfriends don't have kids... I do. But i think it is more than that... like @Molpet alluded to, we are eating the planet alive with our entitlement... especially here in the US IMO.

@Shadrach I did manage to hit the targets! I was only on a 30m pistol/.22 rifle range, but I'm happy enough with my first go at it. Thank you for asking 😀

A beautiful almost-spring day today. I put together a new garden nursery shelf/mini greenhouse that arrived yesterday. Somewhere to put the seedlings once they need to move out of the house. Flat-pack construction is about my level of DIY! It's a nice cedar wood shelf and I coated it in boiled linseed to hopefully keep it looking nice for a long time.

The flock has been fenced in to the back yard. Everyone has has enough of stepping in chicken poop on the front deck! The back yard is more than half the whole property, the front is all asphalt for parking, so it's not much of a hardship for the chickens. I'm sure they will complain about not being able to knock on the kitchen door anymore though. Most likely the younger flock members will have a laugh at the fences and fly right over.

On the topic of general environmental terribleness and overpopulation - I'm a one-and-done parent. We have 1 daughter and she's all we want. Aside from the moral issues, kids are really expensive! I'm not sure how anyone manages with more, the money AND the time. I'm the eldest of 6 kids, so I've seen both sides, but life was cheaper when my parents had us. I did see the Elon comment.... I rolled my eyes.

I have to really hold back what I think. I am close to most posts removed on byc, well, after @Shadrach that is lol.
So, a lighten up tax-

I agree. Also Consumerism depends on cheap labor, which is a two edge sword. Poor job is better than no job, most of the world live on less than $5 a day. Which is the price of a specialty coffee in USA.... that someone picked making that. So is it helping by creating a job or is it exploitation? And then there's the forest disruption to plant coffee trees.
Rant over lol

Oh yes I know! It goes on and on and on 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😭😭😭🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😭😭😭
Just to distract from your rant lol but a real microcosm is the little island I live on. Yes, the happy people going on a once in a lifetime adventure. Yes, the gotta go to Hawaii and get a tan 1-2x a year crowd. The big hotels, the big rental cars, the vacation homes people NEED to own, all of the gas and food we are shipping in to feed these monsters who are literally killing and stealing the limited land under our feet. The pandemic was a (horrible) opportunity for us (the world) to reset. But we did not. Big money complained and even the best politicians bended. Reduced us to wh*res. Hawaii went from being a self reliant and safe place to a overrun, diseased, ticked off run away train. "But people want". It is insane. There are next to no recycling programs set up for all of this happy plastic and certainly no public announcements to keep it clean and civil and recycle... we just keep adding to the mess. I practically have to beg people to save me their egg cartons... and they still toss them in the rubbish... Big business being allowed to bring this plastic in on this scale to a little island with NO plan??? WTF! If I see another tourist couple in a Jeep truck, or a Dodge Charger I am going to scream... or cry lol. We do not have the infrastructure but please don't build it for them! Why do they need these big rental cars?!!

On happy good news.... my motorcycle fuel sensor came in so I can hand my 13 yo scooter down to a young person- baby steps. AND, I hear Ford is working with vendors (??) on EV replacements for combustible engines!! 🤞🤞🤞🤞 glad someone respected their bailout money the US people financed and the small ask or strings attached to reduce carbon emissions. Can't say the same for Chrysler.

K. Megga rant over and my only tax offering...

Gunna go take my meds now lol 😆

Not many under 50's on this thread I would think.

@Shadrach I'm ever so sorry. It seems your wonderful thread has been hijacked by housewives under 50, or desperate housewives, or whatever we're called in the UK 🤭.

I have a few years to go

Heck I am 62 but certain Shad nows that.

As all of you know
AGE IS JUST A NUMBER!

Remember you are only as old as you feel.

I'm 77 now and would not ever want to go back in time.
