Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Odd, most of the time it goes the other direction

Especially the CEO and other top execs.

We have similar but the green one is the size of a large waste basket and the blue (your yellow) and black (your blue) are the same size. It would be far better if the landfill was every other week since we have WAY more recyclables than trash. Can't get rid of the cardboard (and WAY too much of it with all the things that seem available only on the web these days) because there is never any room.

I rarely use the compost bin since I give everything that is reasonable for chickens to the girls and the rest that will compost in the back yard goes into my 3 large compost areas. I don't know how people who don't have these things manage their compostables. Anything that goes in the provided bin goes moldy right off and people have to deal with this for 2 weeks at a time?!? I bet most of it is going in the trash even though that is illegal now.

tax (from 2018) 12 week old Golden Campine and Barred Rock. The Rock is still here, the 2 Campines would not stay in the fenced area and presumably eventually became fox food.

Oh yeh, the recyclables aren't collected often enough. It needs to be weekly. My green waste is also quite scant but I don't have a lawn. I guess people with lawns need big bins for all the clippings.

The tax photo is v old. But at least it has all four hens in it.

Presumably there isn't a test as to whether you are a good breeder. Or is there?
I think in many countries there are licences needed to be a registered breeder.
As I understand it these licences cover hygine, disease control etc. None of them say this person is a good breeder of chickens.

Dry again today but a wet week next week is forcast.
I had them in the allotments for a while before herding them back into the run.
I've almost finished the front of the new run. I'll post the pictures together when I've finished.

Fret.

I totally agree with you.

If I give something to I have to get something for the rest of them.
Now that the weather is more tolerable here I'm going to pick up a couple packs of hot dogs and a carton of beer and enjoy my coming Sunday. Best way to recharge that I know of. I always cook for the pups when I grill. They ain't picky and love everything I cook. Seeing the pups play and the chickens ranging does my heart good.❤

Yes, but it's through direct or very near to contact. I've had one chicken in a group have terrible SLM and the others were fine. I've come to think there is a genetic predisposition to having problems with SLM.
That makes sense to me. If things like colour are heritable, why not the susceptibility of scales to mites.

I know in the US and Canada breeders can apply for NPIP certification which focuses on fighting a number of diseases, and I think it includes a written test as well as a visit to the breeder's setting ?

Glad you're finally getting some nice weather, and some time to enjoy it! This summer has been hard everywhere but in places like yours that were already warm it must have been exhausting.

My youngest cousin is coming on Friday for a week with a friend and she'll be keeping our house while we go for a few days mountain trek. I'm really glad she suggested it, as she has been house sharing in a small community farm for five years so she is much more used to chickens and gardening than the two other friends that did house keeping for us. Hopefully if she likes our place we can get her to come again 🤣.

Tax : a very rare occurence last week when our four ex-batts let Chipie the bantam dustbathe next to them. You can vaguely see her zooming hiding under Theo's wing.
