Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Classic example of why chicken behavior/grouping is hard to define. Some groups stay based on looks, others have great diversity. 😀

I adore frizzles & have a soft spot in my heart for them. He is lovely!

Because I probably owe tax & if I don't I eventually will.

I'm thankful I read this thread today. I've been giving a generous amount of mealworms to the chickens for protein. Does anyone know if the bugs that produce mealworms are good to give chickens or if they need to be in limited quantities?

i combined my Leghorns and 4 silver grey Dorking hens into one coop. After arguments between the two breeds, the rooster took charge and now they live peacefully but separate themselves by breed.

My tax was prepaid. :) If this continues, you will need a picture of Rolex, the cockerel who I thought was a pullet until a few days ago. He has started crowing. Now I have 3 boys.
I don't know how mealworms became the go to treat for a chicken. They are very high fat content and I've read about people feeding handfulls to a single chicken.
There are so many better alternatives.

And there was me thinking it had more to do with obsevation and the opportunity to observe in circumstances that might permit the chickens to make choices.;)

I figure after last nights long winded post I owe some tax.

These are the 4 girls I mentioned last night that vary from hanging out together to splitting off into pairs. All 4 look different even though they are half Marans.
Maybe they know they are half Marans. Otic certainly did and she was hatched by a bantam hen.
