Those of you with experience of broodies doubling up, do you see fewer breakages in a larger nest? Or is there no difference?
Given that the space is adequate, I think it is more dependent upon the temperaments of the hens involved.
 
That is definitely good info! I wanted a donkey, but donkeys and dogs also dont get along. I figure a handful of large birds like geese and peafowl will do a good job of warding off most daytime predators until everyone is back in their runs each evening.
When we were contending with (what we thought was) a fox, I had read about how to deter them. Urine was one option I read about, and a donkey was the other. There are some interesting photos of fox dangling from a donkeys jaw out there...

Anyway, turns out it wasn't a fox burrowing in my flower beds to get under the porches, it was my naughty dog.
