These are Bracket's chicks. Bracket, Hinge and Nolia all played a role in hatching them. They were on natural ground learning from mum and the two aunts on day two of their life. Like Tap above, they have never been in a cage.

How is she unwell Shad? One of the Red Sex Links is unwell. She's from the group that was "rescued" last year. She may be three and half years old. She is mite and lice free, not eggbound and I don't think she has worms. Her belly is the right size and firmness, her throat is clear and healthy looking and she does at least have some meat on her bones.
She's unwell because she been bred to lay more eggs. Most of the Ex Batts will die from reproductive issues. I can only deal with the obvious problems. How is she unwell Shad?
That reminds me of a picture I found my 9 year old daughter drawing the other day! She knows what happy chickens look like.Punch and Nolia at the back. Hinge Mag and Bracket at the front.

Sorry, I didn’t ask why, I understand that. I wanted to know in what way she was unwell as you listed a number of dimensions on which she was doing OK.She's unwell because she been bred to lay more eggs. As I mentioned on By Bobs thread, the Ex Batts are dead hens walking. There is nothing I can do apart from get them out as much as possible, feed them decent food and kill them if they look like they are suffering. Fortunately so far the five that have died so far have died quickly as I've been told they will. They are not strong enough to fight for life for long.
Great picture!Punch and Nolia at the back. Hinge Mag and Bracket at the front.
