Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I agree! Pretty egg, and the first one looks like a goth chick portrait. 🥰
Indeed! She wears her name well 😱.

In France naked necks are not kept in backyard coop, they are only raised as meat birds. I didn't know they laid green eggs or is she some kind of cross breed?

@ManueB what are those pyramid things on your hives for?
Feeders ( not sure that's the correct term?), attached under the hives roof, like here : https://agriloisirs33.fr/nourrisseur-couvre-cadres-cheminee-dadant-10-cadres.html
We don't use those anymore because having to take the roof off in winter when we put some insulation on, is a pain.

she hatched out from a random assortment of eggs we ordered online. we are not sure of her exact genetics. so definitely a barnyard mix.

In the USA, the American Poultry Association only recognizes one breed with a naked neck. They call them "Naked Necks," and they are a dual-purpose type chicken that lays brown eggs. (Plus a bantam version that is a miniature of the same.)

But the bare neck is caused by just one gene, so it's easy to have mixed-breed chickens with naked necks and traits from other breeds.

Thank you for that information! I suppose it probably means that the breed we have here, is very different from that in the US.

And it also probably means that our naked neck chicken never get to mingle with other breeds, otherwise as it's a single dominant gene we would definitely see some backyard mixed hens with naked necks..

That's why I find Seksis so...special ☺️.

Who says it is a dominant gene? That seems improbable doesn't it? Has Skeksis hatched any of her eggs?
