Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

This one was waiting for me on the wrong side of the fence today. She followed me to the gate, waited for me to open it and as the others rushed out she wandered in looking for food. I don't know how long she had been out for.

This is my friend. She's the hen that follows me around. She'll fly on to my shoulder.

We had rain this morning. This afternoon was cool but sunny.

What's your friend called?

Sounds familiar. Several years ago I had (from time to time) a few chickens that tried to sleep outside the run. If I couldn’t find them (in time) they slept in a tree or in the ivy hedge. In the morning the chicken was always waiting at the gate for breakfast.

They finally gave up.

We have one of "those" people who recently moved into one of the houses with a back garden adjacent to the allotment. Apparently she isn't happy with the fact that there are animals at the bottom of her garden. There is now a smart new fence at the bottom of the property.:D
What she didn't notice them before she got the place?

I think they are probably fine wandering around the allotment. My concern is they wander off the allotment and onto the track. Some drivers use the track as a raceway.
If she can't find enough to eat she's unlikey to stray far but it's a risk.
