It seems perfectly sensible to me

We live in houses with walls, and have doors to go out. We fence chicken runs but put gates in them. It is much easier to put in a gate when the fence is built, than to decide to add it later.

The last I heard they were banned from the allotments. I'm not sure how this works in reality. The land is council owned.

Having met the women I am not in any hurry to speak to her again.

Well, both babies survived the night, and were tottering around inside the incubator. I put them in the brooder. Will give an update when I get home from work.

I think I'm going broody for broodies.

This I think has been brought on by my bout of picture sorting, wondering what to do about a replacement for Henry in the long term and the broody picture competition currently running on BYC.
I have lots (note I didn't type ton here for those who read Ribh's thread) of broody pictures, some of which fill in the missing half of the reproductive and care process which when looking at the majority of BYC broody pictures one might be forgiven for believing doesn't exist.
A few of my favourites.

So many wonderful photos of mamas and a few cool dads too!
( I think Cheepee wouldn't be called a wonderful mama in the standards of domestic backyard chickens but some of her descendants did survive, so she did well in the long term in her environment).

Please do give us the other photos legends when you have the time. I would love to know who is who .

Plus, they cut the bottom of the posts so they didn't have to dig so far. A decent wind and that will be gone.

Those hens aren't broodY, they are broodING! I like having a hen brood chicks I get in the mail. I do NOT like it when they go broody when I have no "day old" chicks given there has never been a fertile egg for them to try to hatch.

Well, guess what ? After that discussion some days ago about taking or leaving the eggs, I left Chipie's eggs untouched. There was four today. Tonight I'm not finding her anywhere ; sure enough she's sitting on the eggs.

Did I mention an inconvenient laying place ? She is literally buried in a hole she dug in the straw, in a corner of the coop, behind a wood bar. I can't reach her but my smaller hens can .

I sure wasn't expecting such a fast reaction. The farmers here breed those bantams solely to brood and raise chicks, but I thought she wasn't feeling safe enough.
