Yes many will die in the process but that's evolution at work for you.

I wonder how many would die from the disease compared to all the ones that are killed in hopes of stopping the spread. Could be they are killing more.

On a 4 lane road, three lanes flow (slowly and carefully) with traffic while the mess is cleaned up in the fourth lane.

Until the looky-loos cause another accident. Only 2 lanes per direction on the interstate here. I was once in a long line of "one lane closed", took 45 minutes to get to the accident where both lanes opened up. The AH in front of me, the one that had opened his door and dumped his ashtray some distance back, actually STOPPED to take a picture. I would have loved to give him "an accident" of his own to photograph.

If the whole road isn't closed, one of the first things they do here is erect a barrier so the moving traffic (especially on the opposite carriageway) can't see anything; keeps that lot moving at least, but there are still voyeurs who slow as they approach, and they're in the fast lane if they're on the other carriageway!

Wonder article and a good laugh! I don't have tree hugger but the partner's good at climbing trees to get bee swarms, no doubt he could get a chicken. We have to practice finding the knee ankle joint on our most cooperative hen.

I give the chickens a treat before closing them in.

Make a noise if you do (shaking the treats -box, whistle…) Start this trick before sunset. Chickens learn so quick if food is involved. You’ll be amazed.

After they learned the trick, they come any time of the day.

I call them in by ringing a bell b4 tossing scratch into their run. Great for those times I need to leave or get them locked up early.View attachment 3150840

We did something a bit like that with Théo and Chipie but what they associate with the trick is a special box, not a noise, which would be much more efficient to call them when they can't see us.
However the only thing they love enough to come is sunflower seeds and I'm not sure that would be good for the chicks ? They are 10 days now.
Would small pieces of strawberries be all right ? Or what could I give as treat while they are small?

Same here. Only the road is so filled up that it often gets piled up.

About the work,
We are stil part of Europe across the Northsea , but we have a big problem with jobs too. Not many unemployed. Many jobs that can’t be filled. There is a shortage of nurses, teachers, mechanics, waiters, fruit pickers, …..
Our main reason: elderly getting retired and less young people who fill in the gaps.

3 bantam hens in the evening sun.
They love to free range a couple hours, eating fallen cherries , grass seeds, scratching for bugs and begging for bread or boiled spaghetti.

They look very happy indeed!

It all went wrong today. Set off to catch the bus; couldn't even get on the first two.
Got to town to catch the second bus. Waited, the bus readout said bus was due then the info just fell off the display. No explanation, nothing. Waited over an hour. No bus and no information either. Eventually a bus driver told everyone who was waiting that there had been an incident on the road that runs from Avonmouth to Bristol. All the buses use this road at one point or another. Basically everything West of Bristol grinds to a halt when this road is shut. There is in most peoples opinion no need to shut the road when things go wrong but the police do it as a matter of course.
Checked the trains and the one train that would have got there before dark was delayed due to carriage problems. This has been an ongoing problem since Brexit. The UK in effect prevented all those non British workers from coming to the UK to work on the buses, the trains, the roads, the farms, the hospitals, the list just goes on. This bunch of halfwits we are currently in power are the most useless I can recall.
So, no chicken pictures tonight. C luckily was home and closed and fed.

People living in the bigger cities are mad because they have to go through that kind of things on regular basis. How can you not get angry ?

I still had doubts the day before but this morning I saw Théo the rooster attacking not only Chipie, but also the chicks. They don't seem hurt though I can't really check from afar but I don't know how to handle this . He's small enough that he can go through chicken nettings and fly over any temporary separation we could make.

I think strawberries would be fine. Any kine fruit really. Mom will help introduce them to any new foods. Banana is one of my favorite foods to feed any of my animals.

I'd probably toss him out and leave the ladies and mama in the safe space.

To my eyes it's rejection as it happens when Chipie take the chicks where the rest of the hens are eating or resting.
Chipie and Théo arrived together a few months ago and were violently rejected. Théo stuck with her even when he began to be accepted by the other hens but it's seem that's over.
