Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Re: whether chickens know which offspring are theirs biologically, even if they were incubated and brooded by another, unrelated, hen (a propos Paprika setting Venka's eggs, and Venka hanging around in the coop after they hatched), I've just read this (in one of the articles in Shad's list of recommended ones):
"Fowl may be able to determine genetic relatedness by olfaction, thus enabling kin recognition", https://www.mdpi.com/2076-328X/8/1/13/htm section 3.

This article is really full of insights, it's a well of information.
The conclusion could almost have been written by Shadrach!
So much feathers 😯! It seems they have almost grown all of their adult feathers , how old are they now ?

Horrible week for antisocial me. Will have to survive concurrently the celebration for the national 14th of July, the village's patron three days party, having to host friends for five days, my partner's stepbrother's 50 th birthday and a heatwave like in most of Europe. Can't wait to reach Sunday night.

Tax for rant : please let these two be pullets 💚

That's a lot even for people who love socialising. I'd be a wreck.

That is indeed a lot
My advice: Plan some plausible reasons to excuse yourself temporarily as necessary; remember to take a deep breath when you're feeling overwhelmed; and remember that this too shall pass! Good luck!

Gee @ManueB I'm really sorry about that intestinal issue you will soon be having requiring a lot of time in the bathroom until Sunday ;)

I don’t think this will work for you but last night I had two events. I used the second one as an excuse to depart early from the first.
I was still drained after!
