Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Even with pictures I would only be guessing. Ascitis would be my guess.
There is no cure. it's a symptom of other underlying problems.
Unless there are signs that the other chickens are pecking at her or bullying her I would leave her wiith her flock mates. It is not contagious.
If it is ascitis then you could drain her but it will come back. Itt's up to you to judge when her quality of life is below acceptable.
That’s what I was afraid of. Thank you. 🙁

Um…Shadrach, I’m in a little bit of a pickle…so when I went to take a pic of my quails butt for tax, I found out that all of my quails butts had been plucked bare…so now I have a bunch of half naked quails (don’t worry, I separated them into pairs) and I don’t know what to do about my tax situation though…
Half naked is okay on a family site like BYC. Course, you could always show the other end...

Everybody out. Still have 20.:pop

On their way to roost in the new coop.

Both Fret and I think it was Carbon (Legbars) went to roost in the new coop this evening. Both were a bit hesitant, but having tried to find space on the bar with Henry and failed they headed for the new coop rather than trying to roost in the old coop. So far my don't force the issue policy seems to be paying off and word is getting around that the new coop isn't so bad after all.
Work starts on the new run tomorrow weather permitting. I'm hoping that further strangeness doesn't put anyone off.

Sick. But doesn't seem serious.

I've had a difficult couple of days. Someone who brought me their friend who has 8 Ex Battery hens turned up last week and asked if I would look at a couple that were ill. I find it hard to refuse and yesterday they brought two very sick hens for me to look at. It's difficult telling people there isn't anything to be done; not by me, not by a vet and not by them. I explained that they could give pain killers and let them die, or put them out of their misery. They couldn't kill them they said and this evening they asked if I could kill them. I'm off to do the job tomorrow.:(

Wow Shad you’re too kind. 🤟
I probably would have send them to a vet to finish the life’s of these sick chickens.

You're very kind to help the hens and people you hardly know. Respect.

I honestly admire you for dealing with this. I know you're making the right decision :(
