It looks like a wonderful place! Must have been hard to make a choice and restrain from spending too much 😉.

It's always difficult for us to decide where to buy plants or trees, it's important that the climate isn't too different from where we live, and also that they are grown in good conditions. So that means either we have to travel a long way (like six hours there and back) either we compromise and buy from big garden centers. We've also done quite a few grafts and cuttings but we're not often successful 😂.
It is a wonderful place. People come from far to visit it. Even a bus with 30-40 people from the North of Germany made a trip to visit this flower centre. Luckily we live nearby, only 12 km to go there.
Before we went I told my DH we were only buying plants to plant along the tools and bike shed. Plants for the shade, nothing else. My DD bought a lot more. 🤣. But the prices are okay. Plants cost no more than in the big commercial centres. And the quality is better because they don’t use chemical fertilizer and poisons.

The Treason Felony Act 1848 appears to still be in effect, which means, technically, anyone calling for the abolition of the monarchy could be convicted of a criminal offence punishable by life imprisonment. In reality, it has not been deployed in a prosecution since 1879, and given that a YouGov poll earlier this year found that 22% of people in the UK support abolishing the monarchy, that is probably good news for the beleaguered prison system.
Sounds terrible.

Here in the US, a lot of regular ppl want term limits for politicians, but that is never going to happen, as they would have to vote that law in themselves.

That's very helpful thank you so much for finding those details. I had a feeling the royals would've gone long ago if it weren't a good thing for the state.

Then there's all the intangible good they do, like giving people joy and hope and demonstrating history and dignity.
Maybe that’s true for Charles. But not for king William Alexander in the Netherlands. Who of course is a relative of the British royals. And in fact both families are descendants from German old title holders like duces and counts.
Some family members of our king have no scruples to behave like arrogant potentates (is this English good enough to understand?).

Oh yes! Your English is just fine! :gig

They should be ashamed.

There's a lot of daft law on the statute books, because it stays until it's actually removed. If you look at the dates, that law was only in operation for about 30 years (1848-1879), so it's a bit disingenuous of Shad to cite it as if it was at all likely to be used now. A similar vintage law makes it illegal to be found drunk in a pub!

There have been a few anti-monarchists protesting over the last few days, but they are massively outnumbered by those who feel affection for the late monarch and/or the institution (see any tv coverage). And 22% in favour of abolition means 78% against or indifferent.

I have to laugh at the ‘drunk in a pub’ law.
