I see there's another company now offering a similar product, Shaneco, so with Nestera and Arkus that's 4. I think recycled plastic coops must be catching on

Well, there's also omlet of course, they may not be big in the UK but they are probably the first for international sales. We now have an Italian brand, cuciolotta. Don't know what it's worth (I don't like their looks ) but I would very interested if the italians got on this market because they are good at making solid stuff for reasonable prices and closer than the UK.

Yes.I used them too for fencing for a blue Monday.
They sell them in the pet shop for temporary rabbit fencing. But they are quite useless for rabbits bc the rabbits escape. And chickens do so too.

Now I use them to protect new plants and seeds from the chickens. And to close the opening between the two runs if I need to separate chickens. Like integrating Kraai and the flock in July.

I imagine these panels would be perfect for chicks to escape from an adult, especially if a few extras were arranged over the top as a ceiling.

When we fenced most of the property last year and the year before, we got the wire mesh from a young guy who has recently moved in the village, and owns a mesh business (he also happens to be related to my partner's family on his mother's side like two thirds of people here ). He was a bit more expensive than big market stores or Amazon, but he delivered the mesh right up our place and helped us carry it, and he gave us a huge lot of left over cut pieces of rigid panels as a freebie. I was a bit perplex first because I didn't see what we would make of them. In fact we have been using them all the time, to patch up weaknesses in the fence when the roe deers were getting in, to isolate first Chipie and Théo, then make a protected zone for Chipie when she was brooding in a corner of the coop, then to protect her and the chicks just like you say MJ. I would never have thought of buying them, but they are very useful.

They make such a pretty and interesting bunch. You must be quite smitten with Skeksis junior! And Skydancer is still such a striking guy. I wish Sky could have seen her chicks grow up.

I have questions regarding molting today. I know that proteins and in particular amino acid methionin is a requirement to grow new feathers. But, does calcium play any role in this ?

I'm asking because Théo is molting and I've noticed that in the last week's he is eating the crushed egg shell I leave for the hens. It's not curiosity because I see him doing it almost every evening. They are already on layer feed, so he's already ingesting too much calcium theoretically. Any clue ?

Enjoying the new sheep manure we brought in yesterday. Probably not great for tapeworms .

how did I forget them! They are the biggest domestically I think, as well as internationally as you rightly point out. Those Italian ones do look a bit flat pack, so I can understand your hesitancy there, but I don't understand why omlet are so popular, so I'm probably not a good judge of these things. It is always function over form for me.

I forgot them too. I believe they are in the US also. I had dismissed them early on in my search as it did not say they were made from recycled materials.

As some of you will be aware BYC has a rolling article writing contest. The bulk of the authoritative information held on the site is in the article section, primarily in the Learning Center section.
There are some very interesting statistics regarding who wins these competitions, who reviews the articles, the view count and popularity, what happens to these articles after the competitions and who votes for the winners.
The article linked to below was in the article writing competition 16.
Imo it should have got first place. Apart from the fact that it is relevant to everyone who keeps chickens where a coop is involved, it's very accessible and understandable to very wide range of the BYC readers.

I can't do anything about who wins and who doesn't but I (and you) can do something about increasing the readership and the reviews by taking a few minutes to read and rate the article.

you're right, they are not. Omlet coops are made of virgin plastic.
