Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

C has gone tilt again. No water in the coop enclosure. Bottom and top gate closers left undone. Huge stupid bucket of filthy water left in the allotment run which the wild birds drink out of.:he
It's got colder.
Everybody was pleased to get out for a run around and forage. Seems to be a lot of squabbling between some of the hens. I guess they didn't get out yesterday.View attachment 3271607View attachment 3271608View attachment 3271609View attachment 3271610View attachment 3271611View attachment 3271612
Is that the white bucket in the third photo?
What kind of temperature? Colder is a very relative notion !
Sometimes C seems to be off tilt allot...
Unreliable by temperament or side effects of medication ? Either way must be frustrating just when you thought things were getting better.
Day off today instead of tomorrow. Family birthday dinner out.
One of my all time favourite pictures.

Who is/was the chicken on your favorite photo ?

This is a repost tax but I like this moment. It looks like Théo is teaching Gaston how to crow- probably just asserting his superiority !

I don't know what happens. Perhaps C gets bouts of depression, or goes on a bender.
Every evening when I've finished sorting the chickens out I send C a text saying I've been and that everyone is shut in and usually, that I've packed so many eggs and left them behind for them. I do this in part so C knows the creatures are fed and safe. If there are sick chickens I write that as well and write what if anything I've done about them.
Normally I get a text back that evening saying thank you, or one of those thumbs up emicons and that's it.
Every now and then, I send the evening text and I don't get an answer. I do it again the next evening; no answer. This can go on for a few days and then I get answered again.

Having this line of communication is important. Both C and I need to know what's going on in case one of us needs to do something the next day or soon.

It is and there is another further on.
The geese don't need that much water. Because the buckets are so large filling them up and cleaning etc is a bit of a chore. So the water just sits there in the allotment run. The geese do drink some of it, but the also have water in their run. Thing is everything else drinks from them while they are full enough to get at. We have a bird flu problems arounf the area.

Anything below 10C is cold to me. There's British cold and there's proper cold much of the rest of the world gets.:p
I'm strictly 15C to 25C these days if proper functioning is expected.:D
