Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I wish we had that here.
It took some digging. I went to a ton of farmers markets and had lengthy conversations with a bunch of farmers. Then I checked out their websites, and asked if I could come to the farm to see the animals. (This was before avian flu). If they were welcoming, we took a visit. Found a pork/poultry farmer and a beef farmer we really come to trust. I can text them when we need something and go right and pick it up. Awesome to know your farmers by name (Faith, Jason), and their families. We have a veggie farmer we order from too. (Wendy)

I won’t buy Perdue, Tyson, anything like that. Will buy local produce before grocery store also.

I would think California would have some local farms…maybe visit some farmers markets and see? We would go bi-monthly to an indoor winter farmers market an hour away…we had to plan ahead, but it was worth it!

That is exactly what I did and I found 2-3 farms who do beef, lamb, chicken and duck with good animal care and slaughter practices who come to local farmers' markets or you can pick up from their farm shop if you order in advance.
The trouble is that I don't really support them that much because like others I don't eat meat often enough to give them real business.
The farm nearest me (about 2 miles) only does vegetables and fruit - I get a lot from them. However yesterday when I was driving home from a doctor's appointment I passed a field of beef cattle - I need to figure which farm that field belongs to.

We definitely have farmers markets and can get lots of local produce. I’m just not exactly sure how to get meat that I feel good about. There’s a service called crowd cow that will shipment from sources that are as human as possible but I just don’t eat very much meat. My husband eats beef almost every day, and I can’t really support that, either. As for me, I’m perfectly comfortable being completely plant-based.

I thought I had lost these pictures.
Chicken keeping in town Catalonia.

This is a prediction for the year 2100 by people who calculate (extrapolate) on previous numbers.

Some say this is bullshit because we are going to an era with major environmental problems. And we will have millions of lost lives by hurricanes, floods, crop losses, diseases and wars. And an increase of birth control and infertility.

When we want plant-based burgers, I make black-bean, sweet potato burgers with sauteed onions. They are reeeealy good and not processed (unless you count the canned black beans which I consider a 1-ingredient food…we try to avoid multiple ingredients in canned or boxed food).

They are easy to freeze & thaw too, so we can make a bunch ahead and just pop in the oven.
This sounds interesting. Please give me a the recipe.
I make my own burgers too: lentil burgers (with egg and bread crum) , and other veggie food like falafels (chick pea balls) and tiropita (pastry with feta cheese) .
But more often we make meals like this one:

Eggs in the dish for tax. 😜

@micstrachan
The organic meat is from animals with outdoor space and are treated better. Its not only the food they eat. But a whole package of animal friendly rules and regulations.
