Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

because the democracy of my country doesn’t work properly anymore
it's never worked well, even when it was created back in ancient Greece; Aristotle's Politics is still an outstanding analysis of the issues, though one does need to keep in mind that in his time demokratia was radical democracy (excepting the military, the officers of state were chosen by lot annually from a list of citizens >30 yrs old; their military top brass were elected) and what we call democracy is representative democracy, where each citizen votes once every N years to pick someone else to vote for them on a daily basis, and they choose the officers of state from among their number (usually). What Aristotle calls aristokratia is closest to our system (office-holders are chosen by election instead of by lot, still annually).

I am of the view that democracy as we know it just works less badly than all the other systems that have been tried, as Churchill once famously said.

I'm getting this with a few of our wild birds I'm sure a couple of sparrows and red breasted Robins think they are part of my birds family. At least they are healthy eating what my girls eat.
I have small birds in the run too. Especially if I throw in some scratch. . and .. a neighbour cat 🐈‍⬛ really loves hiding in the run.

instead of assuming a lot of madness and / or corruption, you might understand it better if you read e.g. this

I didn't vote for it by the way, but I am a fan of democracy as better than any other method of running a lot of people's lives, and the majority vote was to restore our independence.
True. Though there was a lot of misinformation in the campaign - it was almost American in the crazy fearmongering. Unlike the Scottish independence vote which seemed to have a much better dialogue with real facts.

A scruffy-looking molting chicken for my tax payment.

isn't that the truth! About more or less anything now it seems.

more tax due: Zimmet foraging dock seeds (which are very nutritious, so don't weed them out if you've got them!)
