Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Aww. Thanks for your concern.
I have a small cancerous patch on my cheek. Too much time outside and I really hate face creams (though I do usually wear a straw hat).
They froze it off but are not sure it is all gone.
I really like the derm doc I see, but I think she has never owned a watch so she is always running impossibly late. So I had an hour or more to become an expert in allotment law!
:hugs I do hope they did get it all, but if not, we know they're on the case, so if it needs another blast it'll get it!

Your spare hour was very well spent, and we've all benefited from the good use you put it to, so thanks again for that :thumbsup

I want what's best for the chicken, not just these chickens but chickens in general. These are not free range chickens, they're prisoners and like most prisoners, out of sight out of mind. I read that we are a civilised society and have standards of care, not just for our own, but for other creatures too.

This current situation should never have happened and it did happen because Pear Tree Farm, the rescue centre, did not take the appropriate steps to ensure their rescues went to suitable destinations.

I don't think C is a suitable person to keep what they describe as livestock. My preference would be to ensure thiis didn't happen again.
I would like these chickens to live out the rest of their lives at the allotments and C never to get any more. Some of the Ex Battery hens are around 4 years old now. It's doubtfull they will live another year. My view is this in part for selfish reasons but also because unsatisfactory as it is, it is currently better than the unknown given I get no say in where they go if they go.

have you approached them about this? do you think if you did, it might help birds in the future? or do you think you'd be wasting your time?

well, after waiting for 90 minutes, i called the office again to see what was going on. they never even checked me in, and they said were already fully booked for the day (it's first come, first serve; which is why i went early). so i said i was going to find a different vet. brought skeksis back home and started calling a bunch of vet offices in the area. there were quite a few that do not not even see chickens. did find one that did, and i have an appt for wed at 10:30 am.
That is so frustrating. I am glad that you found another vet that sees birds. Sending good thoughts to Skeksis!

This is beautifully put!

So true: we still hold each other accountable. Having a disorder doesn't excuse hurting others.

We all have our own thick catalog of struggles, but mental-health concerns are in a class of their own. Personality disorders are usually linked to developmental issues beyond a person's control. They take a lot of strength to manage. People are still responsible for their behavior, but the patience of those of us not fighting those demons can really help people who are.

I have a lifetime of thoughts and experiences beyond the co-worker situation, but they're not germane. And I'm definitely not saying you don't know how to handle this situation, @Shadrach. All the best from across the pond.

Tax for the tangent: Andre's slow-motion happy slappy flaps.

Love the video. He is really slapping himself hard. The first roo's expression is priceless.
