Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I would need a air conditioner. The chooks say it is a requirement as they like it.
I think we would be out of luck. Ac would take all the Solar power. I'm hiding in the house because it's almost 90f and wild fire smoke. The humdity is low though 40%

BYC is replete with threads about predators of all sizes and shapes breaking into wooden coops.
Yup - but it's easier to set up, at least in my situation. And you're right, There's no such thing as a predator proof set-up. We just have to do the best to thwart the persistent buggers as best we can. I understand that everything has to eat, but if I have any say in it at all, they're not gonna eat my birds. This luncheonette is officially CLOSED to drop-ins. We are strictly "Members Only!"

I prefer wood. And if one piece of wood breaks it is easy to fix. Just get a replacement piece and slap it on (okay, I may be lazy).

What is the temperature and humidity down there?
I have a feeling I would wimp out with an air conditioner lol
The climate is great. Actually subtropical. High temps of 85 max, low of 68.(F). That's like 27 and 21 C. Humidity is a constant 85 percent or so, but it feels cool with all the green.

I learned firsthand how great chicken poop is at fertilizing when we would move our chicken playpen around. They would get it down to the bare earth in about a week, and then the grass would grow back in a perfect rectangle much greener and lusher where it used to be.
This gave me a memory-chuckle. When I was a kid, friends would ask about the mysterious "crop circles" in our yard and pastures. We told them that we didn't know how they got there; they just appeared. A couple of my brother's "tough guy" buddies were really freaked out about it. One of them refused to camp out in the field because of it.
The real answer was much simpler than "aliens." Enter Banjo, our pet goat. He generally free-grazed the yard (and the houseplants if he could manage to sneak inside.) When Mom wanted to expand her plantings (and Mom was ALWAYS expanding her plantings!) she would tether him in one place so he could eat down whatever scrub/grass/weeds were in her way. Banjo scribed a perfect circle each and every time ... and a grand myth was born!

We use fluoride free toothpaste.
Don’t if you want to avoid bad teeth. Moderate amounts of Fluoride in toothpaste is not harmful. Even if you swallow no more than a peasize of toothpaste 2x a day is no problem as long as it doesn’t add up to drinking water that contains fluorides .

The story that its harmfull probably comes from fluorine compounds that are toxic. but that's not what they put in toothpaste.

Did you ever show them your "alien"? You should have said the alien had horns, no top teeth, smelly poop, and destroys anything it can eat, including "tough guy" humans.

Our dental hygiene is pretty good.
