Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I had no kids, and am mostly estranged from my mostly bonkers family.
LOL My boys are grown, and while I help provide for my parents, I try to avoid talking to them.. LOL My husband was looking at Ecuador, but just concerned with the political climate, not that it is good anywhere other than, possibly Hungary, the enemy you know, seems easier to deal with.

Ideally, North Yorkshire, near enough to Whitby to go on a semi-regular basis, but out far enough to have a small farm. (even my London husband fell in love with it there.) I am from Vermont originally, so I am just not cut out for hot climates, and I am used to being surrounded by woodland that I could explore. You can't walk in the woods here, because

  1. Someone owns the land and aren't keen to share. (and I do understand, it likely due to the fact that some people have no respect and would trash their land.)
  2. Copperheads, cottonmouths and an array of venomous snakes, fire ants, Ground nesting wasps.
  3. The heat, it is just not pleasant. At 53, I still like to make snow angels and splash in puddles.(I have also lived in Arizona which is definitely hotter than here.)
I think my husband is homesick for England's Green and Pleasant Land too, but we do have obligations now that my parents are getting old and frail (mentally and physically and not that we are not aging, ourselves..lol).
I used to love walking in the woods up in Connecticut, but don't here in NC for the reasons you listed, PLUS the undergrowth needs a machete trim before walking is possible. The vines are everywhere, plus many of them have horribly long thorns that can pierce clothing, even leather gloves.

I get the same. People don't understand me when I say there's nothing to do in the city or on a cruise ship.
Cruise, ew. Too many people confined on a huge ship.

My eldest sister and her husband do Viking river cruises. The ships are much smaller, and sail from port to port as you sleep. Those I might try.

That sounds much better. I'd really enjoy a small cruise. I'd love the various conversations with other passengers and sitting quietly with a cup of tea while watching the world go by.

I miss that connection with the woodland, that smell, the way the air feels, even more so in the autumn, Put that in close proximity to the sea, and that, to me is heaven. Smaller towns and villages in the UK are designed so that you can get everything you need and almost everything that you could want, within walking distance and I love that lifestyle.

I have one luxury and that's my stereo system.
:thumbsup

I miss having a good stereo. I also miss going to the Grand Rapids Symphony concerts. There is nothing like live music. Good recordings are second best, but they fill a big gap.

If I could go to any concert, time travel possible and included, I would go hear the world premier of Beethoven's 9th Symphony. If I could give anyone any gift, I would give him the gift of never having lost his hearing. Recent research suggests it was caused by lead poisoning, not syphillis, as formerly thought.

Sunny wants to tell me something.

Rain on and off all day although it didn't rain hard in the afternoon.
Got Fret off her nest. No more broken eggs despite Carbon laying a donation.
They got through 140 grams of mash and I hand fed Fret on her nest again just to make sure she's eating properly.
