It’s obvious to me you are a rooster-whisperer. Like some people (one I know) is a horse whisperer. It’s a rare gift or a talent some people can develop. The breedong sows on my Uncle's farm were the most dangerous creature there. Made the free range roosters look downright friendly by comparison.
This is related to one of the things I have found extremely difficult to fully understand about the attitude of mainly American poultry keepers expecting roosters and many other farm animals it seems to be safe.
When and where I was brought up all the creatures on the farm were considered dangerous and part of the skill in farming was not to get killed or injured by the creatures that were kept.
I often wonder if my luck/ability/whatever in dealing with roosters is I start with a completely different view of the creature to many I read about here.
Yes! The first time I saw Chipie's (my first bantam) egg, I was amazed at how smooth and shiny it was. It was like marble ! I didn't eat it because it was so perfect !The bantams lay almost shiny eggs, very smooth and strong-shelled, so far. From the rather small sample of birds I have, I will definitely agree with yall that the more "industrialised" the chicken, the worse the egg
Is this an after effect of reading @TropicalChickies 's articleI don't know. Some communist regime I believe. They seem like jolly decent chaps to me.
They have been at the allotments discussing the merits of an autocratice state system of government with what few chickens are left thanks to the profit driven capitalist system currently in place some fools call democracy.
Sorry, couldn't help myself
They belong to my future plot partner, Mrs I know more about growing food than all you middle class wannabe city reluctnics because we had to grow food in order to survive.
Ooops, still at it. Sorry.
The current seminar is apparently on excessive human egg consumption by the wastefull western fat and greedy mob.
It's no good. I'll have to sign off for a bit and go and read a some media propoganda to correctly realign my political views. Be back after reading the news.![]()
my Spanish is pants; can you translate?Sembrando la tierra, Juan, se puso a considerar, por qué la tierra será del que no sabe sembrar?
A favorite of mineI grew up to the songs of Quilapayun, Angel and Isabella Parra, Atuhalpa Yupanqui..my upper class city relutnics parents never got over being in Chile for civil service when Pinochet took over.
Sembrando la tierra, Juan, se puso a considerar, por qué la tierra será del que no sabe sembrar?
I love the tent set up for the chicks. That's how we roll here off grid in the jungle. Just get something up, a piece of roof, a sheet of plastic, anything to keep dry. The chickens are grateful for any shelter and if it's simple and pest free even better. They aren't looking at the paint colors.I know I should not get political, but needed to respond on your statement about Hungary. Hungary is not a real democracy anymore. The government controls all media and influences the minds of the people that way. Much the same as Russia and many other autocratic countries.
Off-topic tax.

Whoa, big boys!Hahaha, he is named after the penguins from the Madagascar movie. They were Rico, Skipper and Kowalski. I just have Skipper (hen) and Kowalski now. Rico the brother went to his own flock and from all reports is a very spoilt rooster with a doting flock owner.
Skipper and Kowalski:
