Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Three hours today. Two this morning and one this afternoon. I went home (can't go anywhere else with the bug) had something to eat, lay down for a nap and crashed.

Carbon attacked one of the chicks this evening. She pulled a beakfull of feathers out. Fret went for Carbon. Henry and I sighed.
Fret ried to get the chicks onto the roost bar again. She might have done it except she tried next to Carbon rather than on the otherside next to Henry. Needless to write Carbon bullied them off.

Henry and I are considering taking a bit of a holiday away from the chicks and the females. The plan is we get something to eat for a change and a couple of nights of decent sleep. Maybe we could spend a day or two sampling the berries and treats we end up giving to the rest.

Try to change from dry to mash with the chicks. The suspected male ate some but his sister didn't trust it.

I hope both chicks inherit Henry's mellow but independant disposition. He let me clean his beak and ears while he stood next to my chair today.:love

Does Henry like you rubbing his earlobes?
While treating Babs' bumblefoot I discovered that she loves a gentle earlobe massage also under her chin - between her wattles.
While I soaked her feet I rubbed those places gently and she extended her neck, closed her eyes and gave little satisfied purring sounds.
I hope I was interpreting correctly and it wasn't that she was terrified that I would kill her, but each night she extended her neck so I could access the right spot to rub.
Needless to say I turned to jelly experiencing that!
:love

he's a blue Stilton :love
A wonderful English blue cheese!? How cheesy to give such a nice rooster a stinky name.

Thanks for sharing this beauties developmemt.

Glad to see you posting again Shad. Feeling any better today?

I think that is just her extra butt fluff. :)
Funny. I don’t think of her as having that much fluff compared to some of my others.

Tassels who hasn’t even started laying yet.

Those are some bodacious booties! Especially Minnie. Bernie's butt fluff didn't seem out of the ordinary to me, but fluffy butts are the norm here, too.

:D Yes, his feather pattern looked like blue cheese as a chick, and his stilt-like legs helped the name stick.

Tax: This photo does neither butt justice, but rooster Andre and pullet Lil Nugs (off to the left) have serious fluffy fannies. Lil Nugs is like Babs; her badonk fluff seems to be growing daily. It's like a basketball.

Andre may be more drumsticks than butt. I'm making a mental note to get a straight-on photo of his glorious hind end before he molts. If he molts (neither he nor his full sister Plumbus have ever molted).

And 2 of the slimmest booties, on lanky ladies Starla and Pinkie.

I'm battling lice on my chickens. The lice seem to be pretty resistant to permethrin -- I treated everyone twice and now just found more lice on them all.

I got a bag of pure sulfur powder (brimstone). Most of the articles I'm reading say to put it in little sachet bags and hang them up in the coop. The old school books I have say just to dust it around in the coop and put it in the dust bath. @Molpet I remember you saying you used it. How do you do it -- in hanging bags or just dust it around? If anyone else wants to chime in, please do. Thank you.

Hope you are able to eliminate those parasites.
