Thanks Perris but I can see this going horribly wrong. Should Henry, who is and has been a most reasonable chap in my experience find out his missus, Carbon, has been eating another roosters shit I can see the current haromonious relationship going to...well shit, to be frank.no silly! free!
The problem with many of these feeds is finding decent quality fish or meat meal. The livestock feed industry has changed a lot in the last 50 years.while hunting for an early edition of L Robinson's Modern Poultry Husbandry (in pursuit of someone else's post on https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/how-many-eggs-were-laid-by-hens-150-years-ago.1593024/ ) I came across another site that reproduces a bit of that book, in this case re: home made feeds rather than number of eggs laid. Those who are experimenting with real feed might find it interesting: https://naturalchicken.blogspot.com/2011/11/old-time-chicken-feed-recipes.html
agreed, but the easy solution is to avoid 'meals'. Just get some fish or meat OR DAIRY - why is dairy so overlooked? It's the cheapest and most accessible animal protein out there. Plain natural yogurt is better than milk btw (unless you can get raw milk). The problem with many of these feeds is finding decent quality fish or meat meal. Our chickens loved raw milkagreed, but the easy solution is to avoid 'meals'. Just get some fish or meat OR DAIRY - why is dairy so overlooked? It's the cheapest and most accessible animal protein out there. Plain natural yogurt is better than milk btw (unless you can get raw milk).
People keep saying chickens can't digest milk properly, loose stools. I have fed out of date yogurt someone gave me. But with all my birds a case just gave them all a couple bites.agreed, but the easy solution is to avoid 'meals'. Just get some fish or meat OR DAIRY - why is dairy so overlooked?
