So in your eyes, dogs with high prey drive, are not perfect? I do agree with MrsNorthie here, although that does not mean all dogs are fit to be pets. I also think that Shad would be rather displeased with the canid direction in which his thread seems to be going, so it might be wiser to continue this discussion in the thread you linked

Saying all dogs are good dogs is just not my piece of cake.
Lots of dogs are mean predators. Some because of their ‘bosses’ or owners some have an instinct that’s not okay by breeding with an eager to hunt or attack.

Isn’t there a dog thread on BYC for dog 🐕 🐩 lovers?
In my experience, all dogs are good, it is people that suck. My son adopted a dog that was going to be killed because he bit people, but to be fair, I can say, for a fact, that they deserved it. Due to a tree falling through his roof, my son and his dog are staying with us and when he is at work, I take Cedar for walks, he is the sweetest most loving boy, I was a virtual stranger to him when they came, and now he is a total grandma's boy.

Dogs do not do anything to be mean, like with any animal, they have certain natural instincts for survival, but being mean/cruel is definitely a human trait. I have a lab/plott hound mix and a greyhound/plott hound mix, and Ribbies, was a staffie/pittie mix, they loved the chickens as little peeps, they showed no prey drive and Ribbies showed a huge instinct to watch over them. (no special training, just lots of love.) Any bad behaviour exhibited is down the the people who have them. Dogs wouldn't kill live stock, or bite someone's brat if their humans behaved responsibly.

I have never met an animal that I didn't love. :) You are 100% right, there are dogs that are not naturally suited to be pets, for just anyone, in any situation. Just like chickens, not everyone that keeps chickens could handle jungle fowl, for example.

Dogs wouldn't kill live stock
This is the biggest takeaway for me. Dogs with high prey drive are amazing animals. People just have to be responsible. Of you have a saluki, you don't let it free with your chickens. If you have a dog reactive dog, you don't let it without a leash in the park, screaming "he's friendly" to the other person whose dog is being targeted by yours, whilenyoure 10 meters away and have no control. If you don't like to exercise, do not know much about training, and work all day, you don't get a malinois

And with that, I shall pay the hefty amount of tax I am due. Since this is a rooster and cockerel loving group, meet this boy

. He is Kolovos's son, and the only Tsouloufati boy hatched here. He does not have a name, but I am open to suggestions. Ideally a stupid name like his father's

Dogs with a prey drive do kill live stock. So many injure and kill chickens, sheep and other animals. Some even attack humans. You cant just say it’s the humans (boss) fault. The strong prey drive is in some dogs without training them for it.

Next an example, but things likes this happen all the time: My brother and my parents lived next to each other. My brother had a Bouvier and my mother had chickens. One day, out of the blue the dog jumped into the run and killed two chickens. Dogs are descendants of wolves and some are not fit to live freely amongst livestock or amongst people.

In England there are a few breeds that are not allowed for this reason.

Here we don’t have a list like this but plastic surgeons did make an appeal to our gov. a few months ago, because they see a lot of (unnecessary) damages from certain types of dogs.
