Three hours. It stayed dry.
Life has got busy again.

Zacchaeus attempted to mate today. First with a younger pullet, who ran away squawking, then with Lydia, one of the Dominiques, who's having some crop issues, has been feeling under the weather. She turned and gave him a dressing down, a "what for"! He looked confused. He struck out a third time as I heard a commotion and witnessed him running from one of the Sussex hens. Poor Zack. I was thinking he's got a ways to go to become a Henry.

Most of our boys have a long way to go before becoming Henries.

Henry himself is pretty amazing, but the way Shad treats him and goes by supporting him has also played a role in the excellence of Henry, is my guess. Major, Cillin (I hope I spelled that right), Treacle, etc would not have been great males in their own right as well

Perris has had similar success with her males.

Both have a "laisser-faire" approach to how they treat their chickens, offering mostly supportive care. I am sure that this treatment plays some role in how their males turn out such good group bosses.

I don't know about others, but I constantly struggle to find the balance between helping too much, and not helping enough.

I've yet to trim Kolovos's spurs, in hopes that he'll do it on his own, or that at least, the chickens will find a solution themselves. Still, the backs of his girls are getting more red and irritated by the day.

He looks to be under stress, because we have run-ins about three times a day. It is the first time he's had 7 cockerels in his domain, and they are starting to want to breed. As Shad would have said, some of those cockerels would have been picked off by now in Catalonia; no luck here.
