Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Would you please take a picture of the bowls (feeding bowls, black bowls, etc.) on a chain it is very intriguing?
Oh that is a rain chain.
I had always wanted one, but truth is they do splash so aren’t great if you get heavy rains and live in a house with wood siding.
I created an awning outside the Chicken Palace - mainly for my benefit as it is where I sit to enjoy hanging out with the chickens - and it doesn’t matter if it splashes a bit as it isn’t up against a wall. So I got a rain chain on Amazon. In the picture it is all dry, but mostly the bottom bowl fills with water off the roof and provides a handy source of wild water for the chickens. It also makes a nice noise. I like sitting out there in the rain. Very peaceful.

I euthanized her this morning, at 16 weeks old. She had started to use her left wing as a crutch, was struggling to walk anyway, and the August brood had started to bully her.

I don't think she could scratch the ground since her injury in week 2, nor chase flies across the lawn, but she did enjoy grass beneath her feet, sun on her back, membership of her large extended family, and good food. It was a short life, but a better one than most chickens get to live.
Bless her, she sure did have a much better life than many & you gave her as good a chance as possible:hugs

Sorry to hear you had to intervene. :hugs:hugs
Sorry for your loss
Might have been a dislocated hip.
I was thinking of a broken knee which had impact on the hip , growing older snd heavier. But I’m no medic either, and certainly not a chicken osteopath.

Yes, right. But where is the photo?

:caf:old I think more pizza responders need to pay tax with at least one rooster or 2 hens or 2 juveniles in it!
My one photo of Joanna should be worth at least two photos! ;)

Here's the pullets being watched over by Zacchaeus:
