Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I'll have to look into a rain chain. The side of our front door gable drops water right at one of the picture windows and it sometimes gets inside since they are the old fashioned double pane kind.

I really like how poofy Cream is there in the back. Perfect timing as she shook off.
I don’t want to derail Shad’s thread but as a couple of you seem interested here are some more pictures. The screen is my ‘hippy curtain’ which provides me and the chickens some shade and hopefully a bit of hawk protection/distraction. As you can see the chickens pass under/through it without hesitation.

I can't say as much for today! (16/10).
Rain on and off all day. Nobody was the slghtest bit interested in going out in it. I was late and Henry was waiting for me to finish the coop cleaning so he could go to roost half an hour earlier than on a dry day. Henry is very funny about coop cleaning close to roost time. He'll wait on the ramp for a while; get off and return 30 seconds later. If it doesn't look like I'm finishing up he gets into the coop, stepping over any tools such as the dustpan or the scraper, and sort of settles on the roost bar. If I sweep up directly under him he gets a bit agitated and stands grumbling a bit. The moment I close the rear door he shoves his head under his wing and that's pretty much it for the night. The others troop in, Mow is usually very quiet going to roost, Fret, well she'll want a particular spot and it isn't always the same and that can involve a bit of junior pecking until the matter is resolved. Tull and Sylph are both very vocal and haven't quite sorted out thier space on the bars. Henry's head stayes firmly wedged betwwen wing and bofy throughout. Sometimes his head will lift when I give him a goodnight stroke but it's less often these days.

The sun shone for a while.:thThree hours of not doing much apart from soaking up the rays and watching chickens. I did make a start on weeding the herb plot. Henry was over to join in the digging as soon as he noticed what I was doing. Unfortunately for both of us none of the hens looked impressed by our efforts. Tull had a look and decided there was nothing worth breaking into a sweat over in the ground we dug. Last seen trying to get the last of the over ripe raspberries off the bushes.
Fret can do a full 360 degree turn now without stumbling and sticking a wing out to keep balanced.
Mow's SLM is proving stubborn.
