Button was one last May. She should stop just about any time. I keep thinking each egg is the last for the season, and she keeps surprising me!

When I check the nests the straw is rearranged, the fake egg is pushed to the side, and there's often some noticeable warmth, though no real egg. I think the pullets are practicing, two of the three have bigger red combs forming. With a bit of luck, Aberglasny and Sully will start laying before Christmas; they're 17 wks today, and Sully has started exploring the nests.
Yes I think so. The recent temperature drop here has most of my hens not laying, or laying very sporadically. My molting hen hasn't laid since a week before she started losing feathers.
Yours are more svelte than my "brick" girls.Esther is beautiful. My two 17 wk olds haven't grown their wattles yet, and have barely started colouring up, so I think we're a bit further off View attachment 3970504
the person who put the water butt there (it's a recent change) has been told over and over again not to put things agaisnt the fence or climbable things close to the fence.
Sorry to hear about the goose. I'd be tempted to put hands on the person that left that water barrel there. Not a good day.The white male goose got killed by a fox. Completely unnecessary in this instance. The fox got on top of this water butt and made the jump to the fence. The fence top has a dip in it where the foxes weight has bevt it.
The thing is, the person who put the water butt there (it's a recent change) has been told over and over again not to put things agaisnt the fence or climbable things close to the fence. We had all this out when they leant a couple of pallets against the fence and tried to start a compost heap against thhe fence and broke a couple of the admittedly not very strong posts. There is only one male goose left now and he shouldn't be left on his own. Rehoming is what's needed. I've spoken to C about it.

A couple of hours today. Weather quite pleasant at 13C with some sunshine.
Of course the chickens know about the attack on the geese. Thye did come out, but only when I sat in the chair outside the run. It was a quick forage at the compost heap and then on to my plot and under the fruit bushes for the rest of the afternoon apart from a few minutes to eat the tuna I took them.
