Nice! I got one that was half red and while I considered whether to pick it a chipmunk did a drive-by and grabbed it right from under my nose!
This field just looks like chicken heaven.Drizzle and rain on and off all day. I spent a couple of hours with them, mostly out on the field. The recent rainfall has pushed the vegitation into overdrive, as it has for much of what's been planted. Bugs have come to the surface and the ground has softened.

Ours have all done so well with the chicks, I will never have traditional brooder space again. They are even accepting and protective of the turkey poults that cannot be contained. The turkey mom's are amazing too. We are firmly convinced to just let the chickens chicken and the turkeys turkey. There are a few feral chicken videos on the net. What srtruck me about this one is the mum with chicks that look the age they would still be in a brooder in many backyard keeping arrangements and this lot seem to be navigating a busy town.![]()
Broody Buffs are funny! They are fine with me, but they terrify the Egg Thief! LOLIt’s becoming very obvious that the Buff Orp and Barred Rock will be pretty massive when seen from behind, compared to the EE.
Orps are famous for going broody, and I almost want to see Buffy go broody (once!), just to see the weaponized fluff.
I don’t remember if I posted it here, but there’s a great comment on Reddit that broodies carry their anger in their feathers.![]()
