Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Kind of enjoyed that…in a creepy liminal space feeling kind of way.
That's kind of my definition of Christopher Walken - enjoyable in a creepy liminal space feeling kind of way.

I love that IRL he's incredibly funny and apparently not at all stuck on himself.

I have a new layer who had a couple soft shells and now...either she isn't laying after a week of eggs or someone has discovered her eggs are tasty. I'll be keeping an eye out for sure!
I'm willing to mark it up as new egg layer problems though.

The second new layer today's egg was untouched and perfect!

Love your egg holder. I found one that fits my bantam eggs.

"killed by air asphyxiation." When I used to fish, we NEVER let a fish just suffocate, they were always dispatched quickly. I can't imagine how anyone could stand to watch a fish gasp for air! :-(
I fished a lot as a child, and early into adulthood. If we were keeping the fish we caught we'd either run a stringer through their gills and put them back in the water or keep them in a bucket until it was time to leave. Then we'd give them a quick smack on the head. I'd never leave them gasping (I didn't watch the video, hate seeing cruelty). I've had to euthanize aquarium fish, and always make it quick.

You sent me off to my first Wiki rabbit hole this morning!

I'd never heard of them, but their bass player later became Fatboy Slim. Who knew?!

I do rather love "Britse" for British.
We have many more /much more funny words in the Netherlands.
Like lekkerbek: a baked fish filet like the one in fish and chips. Litteraly lekkerbek means ‘good tasting beak’.
If I may inject humor...

...a new look at "pheasant under glass".
Is this something like Snowwhite in a glass coffin ⚰️ ? No can’t be.

Such a pity I can’t grasp jokes like this one. And again. Google is of no help. Maybe AI can? But I don’t like using AI much.

Please grab a sledge hammer to knock this joke down for me.🙏

so here's what a pheasant can do

One is supposed to hang game no? can anyone advise best way to proceed to turn this into a tasty and ideally not too tough :p dinner?

edited to add for @BDutch, pheasant in glass seems to be a recipe

Is it a young bird? They don't need to be hung. I keep plucked and gutted older turkeys in the refrigerator for a week to help tenderize.
I have kept old chickens intact until rigor mortise passed or I forgot one for a week before I plucked and gutted. She was good.
Some people have an ick factor about refrigeration or hanging intact birds.
