Excellent article! We have a combination of hot summers and a few weeks of freezing temperatures in the winter months, so we had to have a way for a LOT of ventilation in the warm months to being able to switch to minimal ventilation in the winter. Spuds group are in the huge coop that we carved out from the shed, but I want to build something more luxurious for Goldie's little group, and I may use that design but build removable "storm shutters" . I am never going to be done with coop construction/modification...LOL

Three and a half hours yesterday.

This can't go on. I have spoken to C about Fret. Fret is the only chicken that C, without any doubt, bought with her own money so despite what I may think about C, they have the final word on what to do about Fret. C, says she will euthanize Fret this weekend.

Much as I would love Fret to pull through I completely trust your judgement. Fret obviously is an unhappy hen and, as she was bought by C then it is for them to decide.
Fret was named, loved, got to be a proper chicken as much as has been possible under your care including raising chicks and having a rooster to hide under when it got a bit much (or for whatever reason she stuck her head under Henry’s butt).

I, for one have learned so much from these chickens and Fret along with Matilda, Lima, Carbon and Henry will be remembered and missed by many.

This seems inadequate but …..
