Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I am a terrible person, and I am enjoying this way more than I should be: a newbie did a necrobump on a 2020 thread, telling DobieLover that she didn't know what she was talking about, and that fermented feed was alcoholic, and she got buzzed when she drank it. And sort of doubled down on an additional old post. I really shouldn't laugh.

That was EPIC!

This is my little vulture at present

Will see how she feathers out

Right now 👀👀👀 she is that messy age 🤣

I see nasturtiums and lupines (their leaves, anyway) where Sylph and Mow are grazing. Do they ever go after them, especially the nasturtiums? I'd love to get mine out of raised pots and into the ground, but I'd like them to survive as well.
Is that what they are.:D
They're after something under the plot edge and under the plants from what I could see. No sign of them being interested in the plants. YMMV.:p

Stuff they don't eat one months, they eat the next. In general these two and the rest when they were alive haven't shown much interest in any of the flowers there are at the field. However, it seems some flowers encourage ground life that the chickens eat and that usually involves a bit of digging.
I would frame anything new planted to let the roots get well established.

Esther has yellow skin/shanks, which is a fault, so I won't use her for breeding. But she's a sweetie, and lays eggs.

The legs are supposed to be "white". Some of the chicks I've hatched have legs that look yellow, but that are proper color once they're adults.

Joanna (right) has the proper color legs. Cockerel on left didn't, so he went to auction.

Shadrach hastily checks the colour of his legs.:p

Great idea, thanks!

I locked horns with DobieLover very briefly early on over the Nestera issue, but she’s absolutely sound on so many things, and a great resource for this community.

I just love so much a noob saying “No, you’re wrong” to her. I thought she was quite gentle in her reply.
