Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I'm so glad to see you emerge fighting - and maybe even stronger ?
Always. I swear I came out of the womb fighting.
I feel stronger. That which does not kill us??

I owe some serious chicken tax...

Thanks Perris.

You knew about my DH having Alzheimer's and me taking care of him while still working. He died in Feb 2024. You'd think knowing that the inevitable was coming it wouldn't have been so hard. It was the biggest kick in the face I've ever had in my life. And it happened less than a year after my mother died. And then there was the spinal surgery I had almost exactly one year ago to date. Sometimes, life sucks.

As of late the most thought about topics in my head are going to be construction related so let 'er rip!
Construction is a great way to re channel one` s thoughts and feel a great sense of accomplishment! New pantry going in at our place then a new all purpose room! Good luck with your projects! 😊

Thanks Perris.

Oh my, I’m so sorry. Having to go through that is enough to break a person, having lost your mother so recently as well must have been horrible. I’m so, so sorry, my condolences for both.

You have always seemed to me as a very strong person, strong emotionally at least, as it’s very hard to know about physical strength through a site. It appears that I have grossly underestimated you, you are much stronger than I thought. It might not mean much, but here is a hug, or three:hugs:hugs:hugs.

You have my sympathy. I lost my dh the same way, back in January.

:hugs

I’m so sorry for your loss as well, fuzzi. Absolutely horrible :hugs :hugs :hugs

It's never easy losing loved ones, whether expected or suddenly. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

Four hours today. Cloudy, humid but stayed dry.
It was feast day today for Mow and Sylph. The young ants left their nests today; they come out with wings. It's all over in a couple of days. There were thousands of them all over the field. I don't think Mow and Sylph stopped eating the entire time they were out.

This is what they look like.

I've harvested 12 courgettes to date. Two more today and lots looking promising on the plants. I got sixty something courgettes last year from three plants. I planted late last year and have this year.

Yep, he/she is still here.:D

Can't believe Mow still wanted to eat.

That Sylph is one gorgeous hen. You're lucky an ocean separates us or you might find her missing one day and appearing in my chicken photo flock shoots.

Can you see the gender? Did you give her/him a name?
I haven't looked.
Not yet. The only way I know it's the same one as yesterday is, so far, no other Jackdaw will get that close or me or the chickens. While no doubt they don't all look the same they do all look very similar. The grey at the back of the neck is helpful and of course size.
It seems I mostly have youngsters. I realized this when a fully grown adult arrive one day. The youngsters scattered. I must admit, it did look the business. Imagine a rugby forward arriving at a horse jockey meeting and you'll get the idea.
A friend of mine tells me that crows and ravens are easier to make friends with.
