So the rooster chick seems to be sick. Today he has been standing like this alone. I can now easily pick him up while he should be flighty and he does call when I pick him up. He does move and does eat, his crop is full. The past 2 nights he did sleep standing up and I thought it was odd. I thought that was just a young rooster being a young rooster, since I haven't had roosters chicks since 2019 and he seems to be the only boy. Since this behaviour is pretty common for a plethora of diseases I don't really know what it could be. At the moment I am thinking impacted crop, but I will have to check in the early morning if it is empty.

If you find that his crop is functioning it may be worth treating him for coccidiosis. The treatment is safe as medications go.

He's a very nice tour guide, lots of stops for snacks. Wait until they find the blackberries and grapes!

I have this happening to me everytime I sit with the CX pullets. I love that they get so close. When I am out doing farmwork I always wear a overall, but I recently I went to sit by the CX with a family member who was wearing shorts. So apparently they love the scabs from wounds and pecked until blood. I think it's safe to say they won't be joining me again at the CX...

The feeding/water station is a success.

I do believe we may be 50/50 on gender so I will need to address it soon. Wild Man was sparring with all of the other boys in turn. Hopefully they can grow up another month before I need to cull. Center is a cute pullet I call Misty Mountains

They mobbed the dog, going for his fluffies
he was granted mercy, and left with fluffies mostly intact. They're going to love when I clip him...free range fluff

Hubby helped me round them up for bed, they got lots of treats and hopefully will learn the time the door closes soon.

I currently am out of state. My chicken sitter reported that Silas was waiting at the coop door as he (the sitter) was about to exit...and Silas pecked his legs, hard.

Me: "What did you do, then?"
Sitter: "I laughed at him. It didn't hurt."

Have I mentioned how much I detest cats...

Cats are not my favourite, but I have 2, inherited..they are strictly indoors, and when I have had chickens in the house, either when we brooded the new chicks in my office or when I have someone in for whatever reason, they visit with the chickens, but never bat at them or show any interest other than saying hello. (the dogs also come over and say hello, but they consider the chickens "their peeps" and are never pushy. (I wouldn't leave them to their own devices though..) I think it is more the people that get these pets then don't take responsibility for them, that are the problem. :-(

You’re welcome to have some of ours! (rain)

My husband put up two 50-gallon (190L) rain barrels, one daisy-chained to the other, diverting roof run-off from a gutter system. They filled up after one rain, not even a huge downpour.
