How long does it usually take for laying to resume after broodiness with no resulting chicks is done?
I agree with Perris. If there is a common factor I think age of the hen may be it. Certainly in my experience younger broody hens that didn't hatch recommence egg laying faster than an older hen.

Separately from the broody drama (or maybe not), Lil seems to be channeling @Shadrach Fret by wanting to park her head under Buffy’s breast when they go to roost at night. I’m all 😍, but Buffy is less than thrilled.

One night, both the new pullets also tried it, but I didn’t have my phone handy.

Maybe it’s because the nights have been blessedly in the mid-50’s? (~13°C), and Lil’s head is cold?

That is really cute! 🤭

Two and a half hours today. 18C with bouts of rain.
We managed to stay out in the field for the majority of the time, only heading back to the coop due to one heavy downpour. We even got a bit of sunshine.

The rain has brought bugs to the surface and new grass shoots.

Plot edge cleaning.

There is something on the surface of this area behind the coop that I can't identify that the hens pecked at with a similar frequency to that of picking up the flying ants. The quantity isn't the same, much less than the ants but it's regular.

LOL Perris has a merry-go-round of broodies. :jumpy
Waiting turns. Like hens queuing up for a nestbox to lay an egg. :gig

@Perris, I bet you have a rooster by now who needs to be rescued with all this spring-off. Coincidentally I now someone near Bristol who loves to rescue a beautiful rooster.
🤔💭 I wonder.. How long does it take to get from a certain place in South Wales to Bristol?

Er... try 9... :th  The 'more roos in early broods' maxim fitted. I'm hoping I may get a few more pullets with Paprika's late offering.

@Shadrach would be very welcome to one or more if he wants to rescue one. I am postponing culling until they actually start fighting, but I am sure that time will come.
