Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Very random note: I have occasionally been posting a 😡 reaction to posts in which I agreed with the poster’s opinion that something horrible had been done, generally an action that could or did hurt animals or the environment in general.

After discovering that some (not all) BYC members interpret this as being angry AT THE POSTER, I went back and changed the reaction across the board to ☹️ instead.

Many of these were on this thread, so if you start getting notifications that I’m sad at you, this is why. I’ve no idea how or if the forum software deals with this. 🤪

Hope you're not too ill and feel better soon, Shadrach.
They're ... very tasty.
Oh wait, I take it back. I hope you feel terrible :tongue

Thought of Sylph and Mow earlier this afternoon when it started raining hard enough to send one of my Sussex pullets flying back to shelter. I don't think she's got that far off the ground since she was six weeks old :gigThe Norfolk Grey pullet she'd been dust bathing with just sat there enjoying the rain while her bath turned to mud.

Yesterday 16th.

This isn't a problem I've ever encountered when taking birds out of coops at night. The others in the coop have shown zero interest in going out in the dark to the point that I've left the coop door open while I do what I needed to to the bird I had taken out.

Interesting. I have had very different experiences here. The bantams fly down from the tree they roost on (within their own pen) if I so much as get close.

The LFs are more stubborn, but they are not completely opposed to fleeing during the night.
Under Kolovos rule, he would have his favourite hen under his wing, two on each side of him, and one right below him. That way, he could reach all of them. If one were to do much as approach his hens during the night, he’d peck. Hard. Hens that were farther away from him, or were not in his core group, would flee if their sister got picked off.

Any chicks that were in the roosting stages (none of which had mothers, as they were raised by us) would be even more prone to fleeing

The reactions count towards members reaction scores.
I remember when they started, the sad and angry counted against the score. But people said they weren't happy if there was a death in a post. I'm not sure how it ended up. Mainly because I don't care about scores, metals and badges 😂

Yep, that’s where I first discovered this. I think I was @‘ed by someone asking about ”articles read” count and got fascinated with the whole thing. Anything to avoid doing something else that I ought to be doing (see my signature.) But someone (Notabitail?) commented that they also thought the angry emoji meant “angry at poster”, so I figured I’d do some cleanup to amend for any hurt feelings.
