Looks like Bristol had east Tennessee's weather from the day before:

Fall color doesn't peak here for a couple weeks, but sunrises and sets have been beautiful, making everything pink and orange. Keeping with the palette, Carrots excavated this treasure yesterday evening:

I found it in the grass when Carrots started making the same scolding trill they use for toads. It translates roughly to, "What are you doing here, scary thing? Stop scaring me too much to eat you."

They will eat salamanders, but I was able to relocate this one before anybirdy grew bold enough to taste test it.

I witnessed one of my chickens chasing, catching and eating a salamander, before I could rescue it. The salamanders are protected species where I live. But my chickens don’t care about rules and regulations.

I'm going to sell the small Nestera coop. I'm not happy with it. Apart from a few easily altered problems with the Solway coop, all round it's a far better design. I have a part written review of the Solway coop which I really should get finished. As one might expect, both makes have their plus and minus points, but there are a few aspects of the small Nestera coop that verge on stupid; the pop door, the roosting bar arrangement and the lack of height of the front edge of the nest box for examples.
I'll lose a bit of money on both the coop and the auto door opener, yet another fault, but I will have found out and learned from having the model.

Oh, I take great care around animals! It's the humans that have to take their chances.

Your Solway looks plenty big for now, plus possible future additions.

Might it be worth hanging on to the Nestera as a future brooder/ infirmary/ timeout, etc.?

How did yours do with wind and rain, if you've had much since it's been there?

Someone on my local farcebook page posted this "hen house" yesterday, they're asking £160 for it! Mad thing is, with the price of wood these days that's probably a pretty good deal.

The brand is Run Chicken by the way. It looks like that's what BDutch has also.

There are a lot of look-a-likes /wannabee’s on the market nowadays with the same or very similar technique/ gear . Even chicken guard came with a new model recently, with the same technique.

I carried less hay and mud and leaves and cow hair and feathers and bits of keratin sheath around with me when I was actually homeless for a while, years ago...

You make me curious. What happened? Please tell us more about if you feel comfortable enough to do so. If you like to keep thus private its okay too of course.

I would keep the auto door in case the current door on the Solway starts to malfunction.
And I you don’t get a good price for the Nestera, you can keep it for a broody or hens that need a quarantine period.

Not private but there isn't really a story to tell, and I'm not sure this would be the place for it if there was

Off topic / cr@p coop tax: last week the littles found a plastic washing up tub that must have been hidden in a nettle patch for at least a couple of years. It's probably more like compost tea than wild water by now. Yum!
