Ooo, now we're getting into the deets!and I assume he gave them no cause for concern on their personal safety front...?

The reason they're in the rabbit hutch and the new coop is because the shed they were living in when we moved in was crawling with red mite, first among it's other deficiencies. There was no way to get it clean so we had to get them out asap.Nothing to be ashamed of imho. But please do look for info, how to prevent a red mite infestation, before winter comes to an end. These bastards thrive in our climate with mild winters and warm humid summers.
Oh that takes me back! my first degree was chemistry but it's mostly faded away nowOK, so I never made it outside other than to let the girls in and out, so instead I will post a pic of what I was doing all day long. It becomes less clear why I decided to go back to university to get that BSc (PS I have no faith whatsoever that any of this is correct, so don't tase me, bro):

Chicken pics tomorrow!!!!! cross my heart

the veggie patch they're on at the moment has all sorts - so many things I don't recognise!their instincts are good
what sort of forage is available to them? often old neglected patches of land have a splendid collection of native wild plants and arthropods for chickens to feast on.

ah - sounds familiar!all sorts - so many things I don't recognise!
Later they'll be on about half an acre which is mixed: orchard with grasses and some open space, then increasingly scruffy woodland as they go up the hill, with hedgerows round the edges. I need to do a survey really but I'm hoping they'll find enough variety to keep them happy![]()
Spot the retired academic!ah - sounds familiar!
Warning: it can be a bit addictive. My table of identified fauna, flora and funga now runs to 96 pages, with about 5 entries per page!
