I think the reason cayenne pepper is so good is that as well as being super hot, it is also a fine powder. So if they sniff it some will fly up their nose. It will cling to whiskers and toes. Get in their eyes.
Miserable and a reason to move on elsewhere!
Ah, yes of course. Not sure I could get fine powder to stay on any of the chew points. I could leave some on the ramp and some might stay on the nest box roofs.
Any dry powder on surfaces is history within minutes at the field because of the wind.

You're right unfortunately. It's got to go. I will probably end up setting snap trap enclosures.
Expect you know this but I should also mention that rats will sometimes move snap traps if they're clever and/or lucky enough not to set them off. I'm always careful to set them up in a way that they can't be dragged out to a spot where other creatures could get to them.

I used to peg down the the snap traps I've set in the past with tent pegs. These were the old type on a bit of plywood sheet so a couple of holes for pegs was easy enough.
Thanks for reminding me.

I was thinking the ramp and just in front of the door as well as a perimeter on the ground around the coop. You will need to replace it each evening for at least a few days.

Here. Al is on BYC and has been helpful to many of us in setting up his feeders, training the chickens etc.
I won’t link him here but you can message him. He is Al Gerhart (that is his BYC user name and I believe also his real name).

Sorry all. I linked to the wrong site. Well the sister site that doesn’t have much info.
This is the same feeder from Al Gerhart.

Other possibility is live trap cages.
If you got her, you can take her home to release her in in the bus in Bristol. See what happens next.

If you could smear some form of food fat (shortening, lard, butter, bacon grease), the cayenne should stay on…

nm, that would just attract her. Vaseline, maybe.

I might have accidentally released a colony of ants on a train in south east England a few years back  I like to think they found somewhere to live in the guts of the train and are still happily ant-ing up and down the London to Brighton line.

Hot pepper sauce is paintable...
