I think you should listen to her. You might be able to sell your lamps for hundreds of dollars or more since they are unique. Collectors might be willing to wait for them. Question is, will this put stress on you? All artists have to contend with these issues. Your work is truly magnificent.

Will it bring you joy? Doing something for love & pleasure is often very different to doing it on a more commercial basis. Much as I love your work I'd hate it to turn into drudgery in an effort to meet demand.

I made these for a couple of people in the UK. Along with the lamps, I sent some pictures showing the making of them.
These are the lumps of firewood I started off with.

A bit of a clean up and rough shaping with a Bill Hook and chisel later.

Putting some curves in and working out a theme. The one on the right is called Cliff Face.

The shapes are carved into the wood and a slate paste is pressed into the voids.

This is one of the lamps I'm working on currently.
This has been rough sanded and the first two pictures show the first application of the slate paste.

This is what it looks like after sanding back. The voids are not fully filled.

Getting the base to follow the lines of the base of the lamp body.

Hi Shad, Just wanted to pop in and say hi and let you know that your work is amazing. As soon as I have the time, I'm starting with page 1 of this thread. I love wood and have done some pretty amazing pieces over the years, but I live in a controlled environment, which is something that you don't. You have tremendous talent. Hand carving is something I've been terrified of for years. It took me almost a year to get a full blind mitered dovetail joint to work and that was working with straight wood and angles.
