Can someone with information on incubating turkey eggs help me please. We found a turkey egg on our ranch we grabbed it thinking it was one of our chickens we got back to the house and realized it was a turkey I candled it and here are the pictures of the candling
Here is the air cell

There is a medium to large dark mass at the top which I am assuming is the embryo am I right?

I have it in a homemade incubator that has a steady temp of 101.5 here is a picture of it

Can anyone help me or tell me if it is alive?

That is definitely possible! Was it in a weird spot and could it have been from a turkey's nest? Looks promising from what I can tell but I can't see any veins

This is my first time attempting a hatch. Ive never raised chickens before. My husband has. We planned on getting chickens this spring. My mom brought us back fresh eggs from a friend in FL. I thought to myself how cool it would be to try and hatch our own. My husband gave me the thumbs up. I made my own incubator and we each picked out an egg. Myself husband and two boys. Didnt think we would get anything but its day 6 and I had to check. WE GOT A BABY!!! Im so eggcited!!!! Im not sure about the other 3 yet since they are dark brown. Ill candle again in a few days.

I believe that it could've been the start of a turkey egg clutch. it was in a nest made of grass hay and even a few twigs. It has to have been a wild turkey, they are everywhere! I can not see any veins though it may be because I don't have a very good flashlight I going to try to buy a better one tomorrow. I found this chart of how to tell the age with the size of the air cell

Here is my egg I think It falls between the 15 and 20 mark. what do you think? should I see veins at 15 or 20?

This thread is awesome! This is my first time incubating and this thread is so helpful. This morning I decided to do a random candling of some of my local eggs (I got them for free just to put in with my shipped eggs following the advice that a full incubator is better) and there was a heart beat in a few! Some are brown eggs so it was a little harder to see what was going on. I am on day 5 of incubation so was really excited to see life going on. I have decided to leave my shipped eggs alone because I have an automatic egg turner and really don't want to disturb them since that is the breed I really wanted to start with I will check them on day seven and fourteen but want to give them the best chance possible to hatch.

Two of my eggs looked like they might have been blood rings any advice on those? I left them because everything I've read says if your not sure and they don't stink just leave them. What causes blood rings?

Yes, I'd leave the blood rings for at least a couple more days. Once your others continue to develop you will really be able to tell which ones are still alive and which aren't

Blood rings are the result of early "quitters". Once the embryo dies the blood vessels disintegrate and the blood kind of concentrates into a ring around the egg. Several things cause eggs to die early on in the process, including genetic issues/malformations, bacterial infections, too high or too low temperature, inconsistent temperature, etc.
