Future breeding experiment. Cross black leghorns to white leghorns to produce blue leghorns. Then cross in araucana so they lay blue eggs. Maybe next spring.

Come to think of it, I could do the same thing using Jersey Giants. Hmmm...big blue birds that lay big blue eggs...

My first chicks, first photo is when I got them they were 4 weeks. Second photo they are 8 weeks old (yesterday). They are silkies called Voilet, Rosie and Ziggy.

Here is an update on Jewel's chicks

They are all 4 weeks now and Jewel is really teaching them the ropes. She has been bringing them to the big coop every day and spending some time in there with them. They all can go up and down the ladder with out problems.

I think Jewel is going to probably let them fend for themselves in the near future. They still sleep together in the dog house under the coop at night.

Jewel also showed the chicks where the best spot to dust bathe is and they all had a blast!!!

This is Blu my rooster and their Dad. He sometimes shows them good stuff like he does my hens. He was calling them and dropping food in front of them. Not a great pic but I love how good he is with them.

I've actually read that cockerels are sweeter than pullets when young and then it reverses when they hit maturity. My 4 month olds will peck my hands sometimes because they are spoiled brats ( who did that to them) and expect treats to be in them at all times. I had a bandaid on my finger the other day and it was pecked several times to make sure it wasn't a treat. Maybe it wasn't aggression????

Probably not since it was just a one time thing. He has not attempted to do it again and he has had plenty of opportunities. Sounds like you have some rotten chickens . I have some like that but they were very spoiled when they were young.

I need to start a new thread about how to make your chickens love you. I spoiled them but I call them brats because they don't want to be touched or held anymore. I got them at three days old and held them everyday so they would be accustomed to it as they grew but it hasn't worked and it makes me sad. I want to love on them but they ain't having it!!

I only have one that loves to be held and she is a bantam cochin. They all were hand fed and held frequently.
